Pandit Shrinivas Kulkarni practices the ancient tapestry weave of Paithan, a royal art once patronized by the Peshwas. Without mechanical jala or jacquard cards, he weaves intricate multi-colored silk birds, lotuses, and royal peacocks into the pallav entirely by hand using tiny wooden shuttles over 90 to 120 dedicated days per saree.
